The second week of "Cry for Freedom", our operations against the Caldari Independent Navy Reserve and APEX Conglomerate in support of our supply operations towards the dissident Caldari Brothers of Freedom, has fallen, with little exception, into a lull of largely small scale, back-and-forth combat against the Caldari loyalist forces, and recent developments in the underlying Caldari internal conflict look likely to cement that status going forward.
Large-scale redeployment and consolidation in the Tourier/Alentene area has helped somewhat to improve our strategic co-ordination and rallying time, but patrols in force through the combat area during the week largely failed to force decisive combat, resulting only in isolated and relatively even kills and losses of assorted support craft and the odd battleship among all three combatant groups, including a CAIN Hyperion, two Acheron battleships, and the well-equipped Navy-issue Raven of one particularly unfortunate APEX pilot.
The exception to the trend was a fleet engagement at CAIN's forward headquarters on 22 July, wherein a siege of the enemy station led by nine battleships was broken by a CAIN counterattack that destroyed the 5-battleship close combat element, and one Dominix in the sniper group, in exchange for the Raven of enemy fleet commander Ladel Teravada. While the attack was a sign that morale remains high despite the continued lull in operational tempo, its result is an equally bright sign that further tactical changes need to be made.
Events worthy of further commentary include the destruction of a Triton Advanced industrial in Sivala, carrying, as CAPT Scarlet has noted in her press release, goods far outside the purview of our aid program. This is for the simple reason that they were not intended for the aid program. The pilot, Triton's Geallen, has testified both internally and on local comms after the engagement that the industrial's cargo was not bound for Caldari worlds, but rather a relocation of his own personal supplies, and that the ship's route was a somewhat misguided attempt to avoid the main combat area.
With news emerging from the State of a decrease in the rioting and the slow restoration of order, and the evident disappearance of the organised elements of the Brothers of Freedom from State space, it may soon be that our aid program has run its course and come to the end of its necessity. We will, in the meantime and until this is proved to our satisfaction, continue our efforts to ensure freedom of operation in the Caldari border zone. |
